Chart your course to the school cafeteria to celebrate National School Lunch Week! The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) serves nearly 30 million children every school day. President John F. Kennedy created National School Lunch Week (NSLW) in 1962 to promote the importance of a healthy school lunch in a child’s life and its impact inside and outside the classroom. GCS students are invited to eat school meals free of charge through our participation in the Community Eligibility Program (CEP).

This week, we highlight the value of good character and its essential role in building strong communities that value positive, healthy relationships and respectful behavior. We celebrate young people who are role models of good character in their communities and support the parents and educators who teach our young people to be trustworthy, respectful, responsible, fair, caring, and good citizens.

Greenbrier County Schools empowers students to stand up to bullying using STOPIt, an online program that allows them to anonymously report acts of bullying they experience or witness. School personnel monitor and investigate reports to help protect our students and keep them safe at school. Students can access the STOPIt website at school on their Chromebooks through the GCS Bookmarks tab.

SCHOOL SECURITY UPDATE
Local law enforcement has been notified of threats directed towards high schools in the county. A Homeland Security investigation suggests that these threats may be part of a larger trend affecting schools across West Virginia and other states. At this time, we have no reason to believe that these threats are credible. Out of an abundance of caution, we will be increasing security measures in our schools over the next few days.

On Patriot Day, observed as the National Day of Service and Remembrance, we commemorate the 2,977 people who lost their lives in the 2001 September 11 attacks. #patriotday
